How I Use and View Twitter
Talking with my homeboy @chadarimura the other day about Twitter, who just started using the service. He commented about how it’s information overload if/when you start following more than a few dozen people… especially if/when you don’t have time to read every single Tweet. My response is below.
“You are right about saturation if not filtered correctly or filtered at all. I take twitter in doses only from a select few. Rarely read every post across a given day. Even go entire days without reading any posts, but I do see my DM’s and Replies when I sit back in front of it.
Think of it as no different than a Google News feed from only those you chose to receive content from. Some trust Google to feed them news, some the New York Times, some CNN, some FOX… I prefer the filter of those I know, like and trust and check Google News daily for the headlines.
Do you read every headline that comes across Google News over the course of a day/week/month? I don’t. Do I read every tweet or click on every article over the course of a day/week/month? Nope. I simply don’t have the time. Most people don’t, but it’s there when you do have the time.
Nearly everyone I know evolves in how they use Twitter. After using it enough, you’ll begin to see what I mean and start leveraging it how you see best given your habits online and what you’re hoping to get out of it.”
Thoughts? Am I alone in this view?
12seconds.tv takes Runner-up at The Crunchies 2008
Had a freaking phenominal time at The Crunchies 2008 Award Ceremonies Friday night with Margaret Rosas, Mr. and Mrs. Beach, Shai Goldman, Brandon Peele (and his new wife!), Jacob Knobel, Mr. and Mrs. Lipman, ZTrip and many others.
Though 12seconds.tv did not win the trophy for Best Bootstrapped Startup of 2008, for a company that literally only started 7 months ago, in my opinion, to even be nominated and then place 2nd is simply awesome and something the whole team and community should be proud of.
Highlights for me were:
-Hanging with the crew pre/post event with our sweet 12second.tv trucker hats
-Seeing ZTrip live and then getting to talk to him toward the end of the after party
-Finally having the opportunity to sit down and play with the Microsoft Surface
-Watching MC Hammer get swarmed for pictures all night long
-Driving back with @mrosas and @jakey12 from SF to Santa Cruz via Hwy 1 with a full moon out
Plastic Logic Reader
Released at DEMO ‘08 and yet another amazing piece of technology that I think will over time transform the medium through which the world receives information.
Table Top PC
Yes, this has been around for awhile, but I’m on a transformative technologies kick lately and still can’t wait to see one of these live and in action.
Gestural Interface
If you’ve seen Minority Report, you’ve seen this in action. The future is NOW.
